Introducing the Baht
These colorful little creatures are the currency in Thailand. They are called baht. This will one of our challenges as we go overseas. Learning the power of the Thai Baht. Its all about the calculations......one Thai Baht is worth exactly .0344666 in canadian funds! I think Jasmine and I will be walking around with calculators in our pockets. Here are some basic calculations:
50 Baht = $1.70 Canadian
100 Baht = $3.45
500 Baht = $17.23
1000 Baht = $34.11
1,000,000 Baht = 34,180.95
These of course are based on todays exchange rate. So we will feel like rich people walking around with 500's and 1000's in our pockets, but its not that much. And if you are wondering about that man on the money, its Thailands King, Bhumibol Adulyadej. I am told that the Thai people love their king, and he is never to be disrespected, especially by foreigners.
We leave in 102 days!

It begins. A few weeks ago Jasmine and I made a decision that we were going over to Pattaya, Thailand to teach at Regent School. We signed a two year contract. We now have 109 days to tie up loose ends here with our lives in Canada and prepare for our life in Thailand. What do we do with all of our stuff? Do we have our paperwork and such? What do we do with our cat? What do we need over there? These questions and others are quickly tempering our excitement about getting over there. So much to do. Nevertheless, the excitement quickly returns when we think about experiencing a new culture together, playing tennis lots, enjoying life right on the ocean, and all the simple pleasures that a life in Thailand will bring. Oh yeah, and no snow for two years. Sweet. Anyways, this is just a simple post to begin this blog of our Thailand lives. Above is a picture of Pattaya. This will be our home....for two beautiful years!!!
